PREPARING STUDENTS FOR THE NEW NEAR

Join Los Angeles City Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez for the 3rd Annual Lincoln Heights Back to School Giveaway, a block-party-style celebration on Broadway that brings live entertainment and free resources for families in preparation for the new school year.

BACKPACK GIVEAWAY


Last year, we distributed over 1,400 backpacks filled with school supplies, and we’re excited to help our youth start the new school year strong!

HOW TO CLAIM A BACKPACK
  • Pick up a Stamp Card
  • Visit resource booths & collect 10 stamps/signatures
  • Return completed card to the Council District 1 canopy

Child must be present to receive a backpack while supplies last.

EXPLORE EVENT ZONES

From Daly St to Griffin Ave, the event will be packed with something for everyone.

Catch live music across two stages, let the kids play inflatable games, try a reptile petting activation, and stop by the SK8-BRD-BUS skate shop and the Natural History Museum Mobile Museum. You’ll also find community partners offering free haircuts, a Primary Care Mobile Clinic, and pet resources!

Do I need a ticket or registration to attend?

No tickets, no registration, and no cost. 

How does my child get a free backpack?

Free backpacks and school supplies are available while supplies last. Children must be present to receive a backpack, and each student must collect a signature or stamp from 10 different resource booths on their event stamp card to earn one.

Are there any prohibited items?

Yes, there are prohibited items. They Include:
 
Alcoholic Beverages - Bags Larger Than Standard Backpack Size (16.75 inches x 13 inches x 8.5 inches) - Aerosol Cans or Pressurized Containers - Confetti Cannons, Explosives, Firearms, Fireworks, Sparklers, and Weapons - Large Coolers - Drones - Glass - Identity-Covering Masks - Motor-Powered Vehicles - Narcotics or Illegal Drugs - Projection Devices - Signage Larger Than 20 ft x 3 ft - Tents and Non-Authorized Canapoies - Unleashed Animals

Are there any prohibited activities I can’t do at the event?

Yes. To ensure a safe, family-friendly environment for our students, no BBQs and no alcohol are allowed on the premises

Is there parking available?

Parking enforcement will be relaxed from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM at approved DOT lots, all of which are a quick walk to the event

Will there be restrooms and water available?

Yes, there will be multiple water stations, public bathrooms, handwashing stations, and first aid tents located throughout the event footprint.

Can I bring my car to participate in the classic car show?

 The Vendor Village & Lowriders area is for pre-registered vehicles only. Unregistered vehicles will not be permitted to showcase.
