LOS ANGELES — Today, Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez joined over one hundred community members at MacArthur Park for the 2nd Annual “Love My Community” Cleanup & Resource Fair, a community event hosted in partnership with the Westlake South Neighborhood Council, Westlake North Neighborhood Council, and Pico Union Neighborhood Council to beautify the park and surrounding areas.

Councilmember Hernandez was joined by State Senator María Elena Durazo, State Assemblymember Mark González, City Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson, and Los Angeles Unified School District Board Member Dr. Rocío Rivas for the event, which kicked off with a resource fair where attendees were able to access information and services from over 30 community partners.

Volunteer crews cleaned major corridors around the park, including Alvarado Street, Wilshire Boulevard, 3rd Street, 6th Street, 8th Street, Park View Street, and James M. Wood Boulevard, picking up trash from sidewalks, curbs, and public areas.

“I want to thank all of the volunteers and community partners who made this event possible,” said Councilmember Hernandez. “Loving our community means showing up, coming together, and tackling challenges head on, and that’s exactly what we’re doing at MacArthur Park. Collaboration is the only way forward and I’m excited to continue working hand in hand with the community to deliver change.”

In December, Councilmember Hernandez announced a series of groundbreaking initiatives aimed at improving public health, safety, and cleanliness at the park, including the deployment of full-time Clean Teams in partnership with Chrysalis and the Office of Community Beautification’s CleanLA program. These crews removed over 45,000 pounds of trash in just six weeks last Fall, enhancing neighborhood cleanliness and accessibility.

Councilmember Hernandez has also deployed Peace Ambassador teams to the surrounding area to prevent violence and increase community safety, Mobile Overdose Response teams that aim to save lives by quickly reaching people in medical distress and reducing the call volume to 9-1-1, and Street Medicine teams to provide healthcare services and reduce to people experiencing homelessness.
